OOP Bulletin ArchivesWinter 1997, Vol. 6, No. 2President's letter: Winter 1997By Brian L. Grant, M.D.Your AOOP has been busy. This year saw the development of a committee structure, whose goals include adding depth to the organization, and providing opportunities for more involvement on the part of members. The committees include Membership, Liaison, and a Psychoanalytic Interest Group. Members interested in joining these committees or starting others in other relevant areas of interest are welcome to contact the AOOP office for a referral to the existing chair, or an invitation to present their idea to the executive committee. The organization strives to include and welcome those who wish to contribute to its growth. Many members have presented at recent meetings of the APA, AAPL and other groups, and during their talks they have tried to bring more people into the AOOP. Organizational and Occupational Psychiatry is a fragmented and as yet not well defined field. Many, if not most, psychiatrists involved in workplace issues are not members of the AOOP, due to lack of knowledge or interest in the organization. As a young group we need and welcome diverse views and contributions from those in the field doing the work. If you are aware of colleagues who have something to teach, or who might benefit from learning from current members, please invite them to join. We also welcome non-psychiatrists, whose interests align with the organization, as associate members or presenters at our conferences. The January 1998 meeting in Seattle has taken shape nicely, and should be professionally valuable and a fine interlude in a friendly city. Registrations are being received and we hope for a successful and well attended conference. Bring a friend or partner and enjoy the weekend. Your commitment, support and presence are appreciated.
