OOP Bulletin ArchivesSpring 1998, Vol. 7, No. 1From the editor: Spring 1998By Len Sperry, M.D., Ph.D.In case you forgot: It's a bulletin not a newsletter! This issue of the OOP Bulletin marks the beginning of the third year of my editorship. This publication has grown in size (from 8-12 pages) and in circulation over this period, and has been redefined from being a a source of notices, president's column, and calendar of events for a professional organization--toward being a bulletin--a source of short feature articles, book reviews, annotated bibliographies, etc. as well as a calendar of events and news items. Many AOOP members still refer to this publication as "the Newsletter." I continue to challenge this misrepresentation since it has an untoward effect on the development of this publication. Since a newsletter does not have articles, readers expect that they have no responsibility for submitting articlesafter all, it should be the editor's responsibility to collect and disseminate news. Both the Board of Directors and I would like to see it develop into a quarterly publication in the future. To accomplish this, more manuscripts must be generated and submitted. That means that more individualsbesides meneed to be involved in writing short articles, book reviews, and committee reports. To facilitate the flow of potential publishable material, future presenters at the annual meeting will be required to submit their presentation for publication in the Bulletin. I have been blessed to have Don Williams, M.D., our new Vice President, assist me as a contributing editor. I would like to extend a formal invitation for others to contribute short essays or book reviews. If you've developed an idea or read an interesting OOP book, write a brief essay or book review and submit.
