OOP Bulletin
Spring 2003, Vol. 11, No. 1
Editor's Note
By Jeffrey P. Kahn, MD
New York
Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Steve Pflanz, Ron Schouten and so many others, AOOP this year had another successful, enlightening and enthusiastic annual meeting. Several exciting articles in Clinical Psychiatry News offered an after-the-fact glance at our meeting, and will also appear shortly at www.AOOP.org. The importance of OOP skills to the world of work has been increasingly evident both during and after the war, and in the midst of our economic downturn, and will remain so in our hopefully pending upturn. Business publications continue to highlight the value of soft skills for organizations and executives, while OOP is uniquely skilled at providing the solid underpinnings. For example, the Case Study of the current issue of the Harvard Business Review focuses on the importance of executive development even in the midst of corporate cost-cutting. Mental health parity in employee benefits also remains a politically active issue, enhanced by growing corporate disillusionment with managed mental health care. Please let us know of any OOP topics, members or work (your own or someone else's) that you would like to see featured in the Bulletin or at the annual meeting.
