About the AOOP
How has the last year been for you?
Have you made progress on tackling your goals and projects? Have unanticipated problems pushed your priorities to the back burner?
Of course they have. We've all had things go sideways to some degree or another. As Dwight Eisenhower once said, “Even the best plan doesn’t survive first contact with enemy.” In our case, the “enemy” is all of the random events and obstacles that life throws at us. No matter how diligently we plan, something always seems to happen that derails it. But that is exactly why planning is so important.
The plan isn’t the point. It’s the process of thinking through your personal and professional priorities, examining your goals and desires, matching them up with your core principles. None of that can happen when you are in the heat of the everyday battle of life. When something comes up you won’t have time to do all that deep thinking.
That's why we have our annual retreat.
The practice of organizational and occupational psychiatry is not your typical job. So, if you are interested in doing this work it helps to have some experienced people in your corner to provide coaching, guidance, advice, and mentoring.
The retreat is loosely structured to allow you some time to think about your practice while hearing how others are working their practices. It is your opportunity to do some networking, discuss ideas, hear what others are doing and step back from the world to get the creative juices flowing again.
It’s time just for you.
